## Why Tanzania matters for brokers

Tanzania's trading community has grown quickly, led by young, mobile-first traders, active social-media trading groups and introducing brokers. Almost everything runs on mobile money, so fast M-Pesa, Airtel Money and Mixx by Yas deposits and withdrawals can make or break a broker's reputation.

There is not yet a dedicated licence for online retail forex brokers in Tanzania. The Bank of Tanzania has said it is studying the area, and the CMSA regulates capital-markets intermediaries. Most groups therefore serve Tanzanian clients from a licence elsewhere in the region or offshore, working through local introducing brokers.

## How brokers operate in Tanzania

Tanzania does not yet have a dedicated licensing regime for online retail forex brokers. The Bank of Tanzania supervises foreign exchange and has said it is studying online forex trading, while the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) regulates capital-markets intermediaries. Many groups serving Tanzanian clients therefore hold a licence in Kenya, Mauritius or Seychelles — confirm your model with local counsel.

| Route | Authority | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Kenya online forex licence** | Capital Markets Authority of Kenya | Regional brokers wanting an East African licence |
| **Mauritius investment dealer** | Financial Services Commission (FSC) Mauritius | Groups serving Africa from an established hub |
| **Seychelles securities dealer** | Financial Services Authority (FSA) Seychelles | Faster offshore launches |
| **Local IB or education business** | Company law plus Tanzanian legal advice | Partners introducing clients to licensed brokers |
