China at a glance

Local Guide · Reviewed October 2026

Why China matters for brokers

China has one of the world's largest communities of traders, technology talent and entrepreneurs in online brokerage. Chinese-owned groups operate licensed brokers in many jurisdictions, and Chinese-speaking traders form a major client base across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and other markets.

It is also one of the most restricted markets for retail leveraged trading. Mainland residents may not trade forex CFDs with online platforms, offshore brokers may not solicit them, and capital flows are controlled. Successful Chinese groups therefore build licensed businesses for permitted markets, with technology configured to enforce those boundaries.

Licensing Routes

How brokers operate in China

In mainland China, retail leveraged forex trading through online platforms is not permitted, offshore brokers may not solicit mainland residents, and cross-border currency flows are controlled by SAFE. Crypto trading services are also prohibited on the mainland. In Hong Kong, leveraged foreign exchange trading requires a Type 3 licence from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). Our China clients are therefore technology companies, Hong Kong firms and Chinese groups operating licensed entities that serve clients in permitted jurisdictions.

Build compliance into onboarding

Country restrictions, document and IP checks, and KYC rules that block ineligible clients, with full audit trails.

Localise in Chinese

Set up payments for permitted markets

International cards, wires, e-wallets and stablecoins, each restricted by country, plus FPS for Hong Kong.

Launch and monitor

Go live with 24/7 monitoring, risk tools and IB oversight.

Local Payments

Payment methods traders in China expect

For licensed entities serving permitted markets we integrate international cards, bank wires, e-wallets and stablecoin gateways, with country-level rules so that each method is only offered where your licence and payment provider allow it. Hong Kong businesses can use FPS and local bank transfers in HKD.
