Why India matters for brokers
India has one of the largest trading communities in the world and one of the deepest pools of fintech, software and back-office talent. That makes it a natural home for introducing-broker networks, prop trading businesses, development teams and founders building brokerages for international markets.
But it is also a restricted market for leveraged forex. Residents may trade currency derivatives only on recognised Indian exchanges, and the Reserve Bank of India warns against unauthorised platforms. The right business model — and the right technology controls — matter more here than almost anywhere else.

How brokers operate in India
Retail forex trading in India is regulated by SEBI and the Reserve Bank of India under FEMA. Indian residents may only trade permitted INR currency pairs on recognised Indian exchanges, and the RBI publishes an alert list of unauthorised forex platforms. Our India clients are therefore typically IBs, prop firms, technology companies and groups operating licensed entities outside India for clients in permitted jurisdictions.
| Route | Authority | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Exchange-traded currency derivatives | SEBI with recognised exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE) | Indian stockbrokers offering INR pairs and permitted cross-currency pairs |
| GIFT City IFSC entity | International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) | Groups building international capital-markets businesses in India's IFSC |
| Licensed entity abroad | Foreign regulator (e.g. UAE, Mauritius, Cyprus) | Indian founders serving clients in jurisdictions where that is permitted — not Indian residents |
| Technology, IB or prop business | Company law plus specialist legal advice | Software houses, partner networks and prop projects structured with counsel |

Launching a brokerage business for India: step by step
Define who your clients are
The most important decision in India is whether your clients will be Indian residents or clients in other countries. It determines what is permitted.
Take legal advice under FEMA and SEBI
A specialist lawyer can confirm whether your model is allowed and which licence or structure you need.
Choose the entity and jurisdiction
An Indian exchange broker, a GIFT City IFSC entity, or a licensed entity abroad for international clients.
Build compliance into the technology
Country restrictions in onboarding, KYC checks, IP and document controls so that only eligible clients can open accounts.
Set up payments for permitted markets
International cards, wires, e-wallets and stablecoin methods, each restricted by country.
Launch and monitor
Go live with ongoing compliance monitoring, reporting and IB oversight.
Payment methods traders in India expect
For businesses serving permitted markets we integrate international cards, bank wires, e-wallets and crypto/stablecoin gateways, with country-level rules so that each payment method is only shown where it is allowed.
